Hey guys! I’ve been loving my bike, I ride every day and i’ve already put over 3k miles on it in just a couple months. About a week ago I was riding on the highway, and I completely lost power. The bike still runs, throttle works fine, but I can’t get any power to the wheels.

I had to walk it home about 3 1/2 hours lol. I have no clue what the issue is, im sure it’s something drivetrain related, at first I though clutch but I drained the oil and took the cover off, but the clutch looks completely fine. My next step is to check my sprockets, it almost feels like the clutch is stuck engaged. I can shift without pulling it in and it sounds the same as normal. I can also roll it in gear. I didn’t hear any pop or crack when it happened, but I was also on the highway with a helmet and music so that likely contributes.

That’s all the information I know, I just need some help, I love my bike and it sucks not to be able to ride it. I also feel like the clutch pin (the part that moves the lifter) looks different although i’m not sure why. I attached a picture. (Yes i know my clutch cable is off haha)IMG_0439.jpeg

Based on what you said about being able to shift it without the clutch and roll it in gear, you should have taken a picture of the clutch while the cover was off. Many here might have recognized something that you might not realize is wrong, and it sounds like something about the clutch is at the heart of the issue. Chain and sprockets don't slip softly even if/when they do, and they have to be in horrible condition to even begin to be sloppy enough to slip like you've described.

Start by draining the oil and looking for any sign of detonated internals. If you’re rolling it in gear do you hear any nasty grinding?

i’ll take it off again and take a picture, but no metal bits in the oil or the clutch.

a little bit of grinding sometimes, but it’s not consistent or severe
Is the engine turning over when you roll it? Or have they totally disconnected? I’m wondering if the clutch mechanism is wedged open, based on what you were saying about the lifter lever being out of place.

Pretty much has to be the clutch. Running conventional oil or a synthetic?
Was there 1-2mm of free play at the case lever before this happened? Picture is showing exactly what I expect for a disconnected cable.

some more photos, let me know what else you guys want to see, also it’s shifting while the cover is off, not sure if that’s normal or not

I don't see anything visibly wrong, but this engine is Jim's wheelhouse so he needs to take a look as well.

Weird that the problem started the way it did. Jim asked about synthetic oil, you didn't say.

although now that you mention it i think i did top up with standard 10w-40 synthetic one time when the oil light came on

Are the 4 bolts holding the release bearing tight? I don't have pictures of that assembly but it looks wrong, inner hub standing too proud(not in far enough)

Without verifying the possibility myself, it looks as if the adjustment quadrant of the engine's balancer chain is at its limit - If yes, while you're in there you oughta re-position that quadrant and reset (or, verify) the taughtness of the engine's "balancer" (smoothens the engine's crankshaft vibes?) chain...

Reminder to heed the specific tightening torque figures (inch-pounds or foot-pounds) listed in the service shop manual of all bolts (or nuts) unscrewed upon reinstallation... ..

Good catch, yeah the balancer chain adjuster needs to be reset while it's opened up.
