VB21B pressed in idle jet orifice depth and other leaks and glitches

Possible smoking gun here. The female sealed beam headlamp connectors were fairly dirty but the green ground was quite loose and after checking the FSM wiring diagram it also appears to be a frail design in that this ground only connects in the left hand switch to the bars. IMG_1375.jpeg

Added another ground from headlamp to an open spot on the shared running lights to harness connector. It looked like it was made for this

The crusty headlamp connections were the main culprit. Bike runs about 14.6-14.8 volts with high beam (50w) on. Still overcharging on low beam (35w), 15.3-15.4 volts.
This has been kind of a funny repair; get the voltage up (black wire) to get the overall voltage down.
I can feel the warmth at the regulator, so I know it's trying.

No matter, big improvement and the Mosfet is on the way from Sparck Moto. I'll get some 10 gauge wire to hook it direct to the battery, as per Randy's advice.

I'll post the install later on LDR's charging upgrade thread.

Before I test ride the newly cleaned carbs, I wanted to finish the 'other glitches' part (overcharging battery) and the final fix is to replace the badly corroded headlamp connectors with this automotive unit as those oversized female spade connectors are not readily available.
Yes, my soldering is not what I wished but the wires are twisted pretty tight and get double heat shrinked.
The connectors were cheap for 2 on amazon.

Couldn't resist another fairing in Black and with a clear screen for cheap as well.

The whole 9 yards carb clean with pulling the pressed in jet did the trick. No stumbles at 3-4K rpm.

Maybe it is the additive jet progression but the bike is faster. I had to let off at 80mph but it was still pulling very strong and a ways to go for red line.

Or maybe the black fairing is just faster. I did put back on the 8lb. rear rack though. My appetite just ain't as good with a bum ticker and a handful of meds, so it could be a lighter jockey factor too.

The new headlight socket wasn't the miracle overcharging cure. The mosfet regulator install will be on Jim's charging system upgrade thread.

Yes indeed. A needed destresser from current ugliness from getting swatted with a complaint to Social Services, Adult Protective Services by disgruntled family members after being told off when complaining about my caregiver role for my wife. The investigator just smiled and said everything looked good here at our home and they don't take kindly to spurious allegations.

"Misery loves company" is , sadly, too true for some.

My bikes are much better behaved.

I'll just tag along with Slofun's thread on carb synching with vacuum gauges. I bet it's pretty close.

They had stones to file a complaint against you after the way they allowed her to be neglected while you were away. Sorry to hear of it. Glad your home care situation was validated by the authorities, and it's a shame you had to go through that.
