Hey Honda twin Gurus,

Hope you all have been enjoying the holidays as much as possible in these times. I’ve been having a blast with my 1972 CL175K6 in the balmy coastal Texas weather aside from dealing with the rain days.

This morning headed home I started the bike up and when I went the blip the throttle to give the engine a little gas, I felt a small click but there was zero tension on the cable. I immediately thought it had to do with the new barrel replacement but when I opened up the assembly everything was fine, so I reassembled and traced the issue to the throttle JUNCTION BOX. It seems that the side of the box where it splits into the 2 lowers for the carbs has come completely detached. No breakage from what I could tell, but… It was 3am and so I didn’t think to take a photo of it. 😅 headed there now and will definitely update.

So here’s my question: is it possible to open and repair the throttle junction box to reset the 2 cables that go to the carbs or am I gonna have to just buy a new throttle assembly and switch the darn thing out? I mainly want to get it off the patio of my job and back to the house for the time being.

Thanks for the help, I’ll post those pics here in an hour or so.

Cheers,
Khrys

Yes, pictures of the junction box/splitter will tell us more. Hopefully the plastic isn't cracked or broken so it won't stay together anymore, but that is not common. Typically the top cover and bottom cylindrical section snap together securely and when completely snapped together, I've never seen one come apart when undisturbed.

Everyone I've seen will come apart to access the three cable ends, the earlier metal bodied ones had threads on the upper end, unscrew the top to pull it apart, plastic versions snapped together.

This is definitely plastic, no threads, but the part connecting the main throttle cable does spin in place, seems I could snap them apart with some knuckle busting… any tools you recommend ?

image.jpgWELP. Elbow grease did the trick. Alas, looks like the unit is totally FUBAR. Ordering a new throttle assembly now 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes, the problem was internal as I'm sure you see. The white piece that is now in 2 pieces is the issue, it allowed the separate cables to come free.
