My tach was reading about 400 rpms lower than it should've been, I tinkered with it, now it is completely broken. Can I buy a cable assembly or would i need to find a new tach unit? There are some attached pics.

Thanks

That's not a cable problem. Unless you can JB Weld the threaded drive part (where the cable attaches) back on the body of the unit, it looks like you'll need a good used (or pricey NOS) gauge.

Shucks. I think it was a cable problem that i made worse by breaking that bit off. What is the difficulty of getting a new gauge and swapping it on? Am i looking at rewiring anything?

Not likely if you find a replacement stock gauge. Speedo and tach problems are rarely the cable unless it just suddenly stops working (broken inner cable) or the cable gets dry and makes squeaky noises. The issue is the obvious age of all these components and the fact that they are exposed more to the elements and not enclosed in the interior of a vehicle like car gauges are.

One of the biggest issues with tachs and speedos is the drive bushing getting gummed up. Look at the drive where the cable inserts and you'll see a brass bushing. That's the spot, lots of lube along with spinning the drive with a drill will get it flushed out. The danger here is the lube goes inside the gauge and can cause fogging issue with the glass, best to disassemble first.
