I'm getting close to buying another bike. I'm after a pre-1968 CL77. The one I like the most is a 1967. The owner claims the seamless fuel tank came on this model new. Looking at 2 other 1967 models, they both have small flatten seams running the length of he tank on top from handlebars to seat. Does these mean the ones with seams are not original tanks?

The earlier tanks were seamless, the last production run of the CL77s were built with the seams. Near as I can tell, the seamless tank was used up to frame# 1043097. The tank with the seam also had the fuel crossover line deleted, a different petcock body was used and the spigot was removed from the other side. About that time, the front mount for the seat was changed to use a rubber cushion in place of the steel fork arrangement of the earlier ones.

Thanks for the detailed information!

And while we're at it, I'm sure Mike can confirm whether or not the muffler on some of the models was a slip-on over the same basic pipes.
