I painted the swing arm, brake bar, top engine mounts and small brackets with 4 coats of Rustoleum gloss black rattle can paint.

Do I need to clear coats these parts?

I am terrible when it comes to paint and painting.

That type of paint may not be the most durable on its own for the swingarm or brake bar. SprayMax is a brand of spray paint that includes a hardening agent that is activated prior to use. This gives chemical resistance and a bit tougher coating. They sell both black and clear in different finishes. It is highly recommended to wear a mask when working with it.

You could use SprayMax 2K clear to protect the work you've already done and that might be a good idea. In the future you might look at the SprayMax black options which do not need clear coat afterwards.

Many people go with powder coating for the frame components and typically that is more of a satin finish (no clear).

I'm terrible as well. Do you need to clear coat these parts? Maybe yes, maybe no. Would you be using a fuel resistant clear like 2K? Those parts may never see a drop of fuel.

I'm also interested in the answers you receive from those wise in the ways.
