Over filled oil now smokes

I've got a 65 ca95 I did new rins last year because it was smoking and leaking out head gasket. Ran great for 500 miles no problems, This year I changed the oil and I over filled it, Smokes like crazy out of the left tail pipe, Got home checked the oil noticed I over filled it, drained it out to the correct level, Now when you ride it randomly smokes out of the left pipe, not like before, some times you get on it and no smoke other times big hazy cloud behind you, Is that just oil burning out of the muffler, It just seems weird that it comes and goes. you can ride around for 1/2 hour and no smoke, next time you ride 5 minutes and smoke. Any suggestions Thanks
 
I wonder if it's possible that gas has gotten into the oil due to the carb overflowing.

Are you sure you overfilled with oil or could it be that your petcock and carburetor are allowing gas to reach the sump intermittently?
 
No I was thinking of my other bike that takes a full quart this one takes 3/4 of a quart and overfilled it
 
Maybe it is just residual oil that was pushed into the mufflers that is burning off when the exhaust gets hot enough.

How is the breather tube routed? Any chance oil could be coming from there and burning off the motor or pipes?
 
What does the left side plug look like? I'm wondering if its just residual oil burning off, or if there's a valve guide leaking. You could always try pulling that exhaust off and spraying it out with brake cleaner to get rid of the possibility of some blow by sitting in the muffler and continually reburning. Or just take a really good long ride to fully cook it and see if it comes back later. If it does, it's likely not related to the overfill and more systemic.

I agree, if you were pumping a lot of oil through the exhaust - there is likely a lot still in the muffler packing that will take a while to cook off. I'd just set it outside and let it idle for a good long time and see if it goes away.

Never would have occurred to me. After I finished the bike I left it running a long time with no issues.

Summer air in Minnesota or Wisconsin, especially outside, is much better than air in Florida or the UK under a heat dome.

At the peak of summer heat, I feel like the time spent idling at an average stoplight is too much in my area (Missouri), but an enclosed space with no airflow is much worse than outside.

Remove the left muffler and stand it up in a pail or any container for a day or 2. That should answer if you have any accumulated oil in the muffler.
 
Maybe. I had this happen on an FZ750 project that someone had left laying on its side with a full load of oil and you couldn't dump it all out - had to cook it out. But the mufflers may be different
