I have a 1968 CL160D that is needing a new clutch cable. I ordered one from a parts dealer with Honda number 22870-223-000. This number is confirmed in the Honda parts list. However it does not fit this bike. On the engine end there is a metal piece that is part of the cable that fits into a cutout in the engine case. There is no way to transfer the piece to another cable unless you could thread it through. The picture shows this piece. Does anyone know how I can order the actual cable I need?

Where did you buy the cable? Did you try to unscrew the old cable from the clutch joint?

Many of the twins use a similar piece, including my 450. I changed all the cables on my 450 when I first did the build over 9 years ago, and my new clutch cable screwed right into the existing clutch joint you're referencing.

The cable came from CSML. The cable cannot be taken off the old one because the end of the cable that hooks to the lifter will not fit through the hole in the piece.

They made that part to be removable so it could be swapped to the new cable when replacement was necessary. If you can't get the clutch joint off the cable, perhaps a picture of what you see might help.

Can you post a side by side of the old and new cable?

If the end of the old cable that won't go through the joint plate, then I would grind it down? The new cable I received from Thailand for my Dream did not go through and I had to grind down the end to get it to go through the joint plate. You will likely have to grind the end of the new cable as well. Grind the new one to just below the threads.

The cable had a rubber boot on it that threw me off. That crumbled away and the piece came off. Installed on new cable with no problem.
