I didn't know about this.
I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled when I was in my 20's.
they all had to be broken to be removed.
not fun!
sometimes I feel like I retired just so I could make my doctors appointments...........

Made it out of a dental visit today unscathed. Over 6 months ago I split a molar. Hurt like bloody hell for a while. The Dentist said I need to have it removed and while your at it, have your wisdoms taken out. I declined. Next visit they said I had loose filling and should get a cap. I declined. Today I told them I was working on growing the molar back. They laughed. My dental hygienist I think is fantastic, she's an expert with those sonic screwdrivers. It's much like taking care of old motorcycles. Waiting for Spring here in cold MN Bob. Cheers.

a visit to the dentist usually has its challenges.
sorry to hear that you are going through what you are dealing with!
in a few weeks I get the stitches out, then another 3 months for a discussion about an implant.
I'm on less meds now so I am starting to feel a bit more normal.
well, as normal as I can, which is always subject to debate!
this cold is getting to me this winter, and it usually doesn't.
I have actually felt cold at night, which never happens.
might be the meds................
I am looking forward to spring, and a good opportunity to properly polish these side cases.
ah, the list, it never gets shorter!

Well guys, I did it.
I purchased a sportster this past weekend.
The Honda will be going up for sale.
I want to thank you all for all of your expert advice, guidance and support.
It is not a stretch to say that without your help that bike would not be running!

I would love to have a two bike stable, not enough room.
with 2 cars and a bike in the garage I am at my limit.
Its a 2011 XL883L Suyperlow, fuel injected.
Dark cherry metalic.
I'm looking forward to riding it.............

Fuel injected, nice, say good bye to carb cleaning fun ;) Hope it proves reliable for you, old bikes are great but geez, sometimes not. Carbs being a big factor.

I do understand.
but............
after being given pretty much perfect advice on these Honda carbs from Jim and Tom, the carbs on my CB400T work fantastic.
It took a bit to get this ol guy to accept that I needed to pull the metering jet that's light pressed into the carb body out, then clean the passages behind it that allowed these carbs to have a low speed or idle circuit, well, I did what I was advised to do and these carbs are fantastic. (I did 3 ultrasonic and 3 carb cleaner cleanings.................) (I have a few spare carb gaskets, jus sayin...........)
This Honda runs like a new bike.
Yes, I run a bit of carb cleaner in every tank, and I've put an inline filter in the fuel delivery line, just for my own comfort, but all is well, and I've put 6,000K of trouble free riding on this bike.

Wow, you put 6K miles on it, that's pretty good. Good job getting those carbs dialed in, I know, I still struggle with mine. And you did put the Harley pipes on it, stick around here if you please Bob, it's still a Twin and not that new.

I'm laughin, but yes, it is still a twin.
and to be honest, I can't imagine leaving this being part of this site, if I can help I will.
This is a great bunch of people that just enjoy bikes.
I have for sinse I first rode one at 12.
There is a bunch of people that just enjoy riding, those that don't can take up golf.
I ride by a few golf courses and just smile as I lay in to it a tad.
Hopefully this white stuff will be gone, and...............

yesterday was a sad day here.
I sold the Honda.
It was a lot of fun interacting with all of you, literally bringing that bike back to life.
It was a fun bike to own, to work on and most of all to ride.
It reintroduced me to the joy of just riding a bike again.

it's warmed up out there.
it's 30deg F
but there's still 2 feet of snow on the ground.
so.............
not quite riding weather, but closer................
so........
I went out and bought more wood to make pens from...........

I found this interesting.
In Ontario you can buy a temporary permit that allows you to ride for 10 days, (without a safety), so you can ride to get a safety.
but..............
You need to have insurance on the bike to get this permit..................
but, again.................
you cannot get insurance on a bike in this province that is 45 years old, before you get the safety done.
so...................
I either trailer it, see if CAA will drop it off, or ride a few back roads uninsured.

it can be complicated.

we still have snow covered roads in many places here.
we live in the highest point in the Niagara peninsula, so our weather is a bit different.
we did lose about 6" of snow yesterday.............
this week may get rid of more.

Those are beautiful! However, after I retired I noticed that all the pens we had at home were drying out and didn't work, because neither of us wrote much anymore. Now we use pencils, only. They work fine, even if they're 30 years old. The erasers do get funky, but that's not a big problem. And I bought a real, crank pencil sharpener.

yes, I agree, we don't use a pen much anymore either.
My wife still uses one.
I give them away to people that still write..............

I used to make baskets out of peach pits.
I once made a basket out of a dried cherry pit, the handle was .010" in diameter as it went in an ark above the basket from side to side.
cherry pits are kinda small.........

Who didn't? I sure did, I had a SL175 at the time I was riding to high school every day with a friend who had a SL350K0 and I was envious.

As these things go, would the 450 be a good dual sport candidate? Back in 1970, Honda thought a SL350 might have worked, but introduced other models, the XL350 side port bike for instance. Of the two, the XL survives in an evolved form to this day while the SL, well, not so much. in any case...

Well, the CT200 (pushrod) Trail 90 wasn't nearly as fast as the S90, so I'd have been eating your dust but yes it would still beat walking. (or in that case, riding the bus to school)
 
I found out the hard way that a hill I could climb by myself, may not be possible with your girlfriend on the back.
I had a lot to learn.
especially when I went to check the bike to see how it was before I checked on my girlfriend.
this learning curve is real steep!

OK.........
the weather was good today, not so cold and no rain.
so...........
I thought I'd take the bike to the dealer for the safety.
I rolled it into the centre of the garage, up on the centre stand...............
It fired up right away, after it's winter nap..........
Started checking the lights, and...............
the right signal didn't blink; just the rear bulb came on?
so...........
You know what I did...........
yup................
took that light apart, didn't see anything............
pulled the headlight assembly, didn't see anything...............
pulled the left hand grip with the signal switch in it...............
didn't see any problem.
with everything hanging I tried the lights again, not improvement.
So..........
I pulled the rear signal apart, to see if the was anything noticeable.
nope................
pulled the seat, checked the wiring harness front to back, no problem............
sat for a bit.............
thought I try the left front bulb in the right front socket.........
oh yeah, this is after I changed the signal bulb out for an 1157 bulb, seemed normal.
after moving the working bulb to the side that wasn't blinking, the problem changed sides?
so.............
yup...............
I looked at the owner’s manual that came with the bike..............
and............
this bike uses a 1034 bulb.
bought a bulb, and all is well now!
oh yeah, by the way, the new clutch works very nicely!
nice crisp shifts!
another day at the office!

A few searches shows 1034 bulb is compatible with 1157 bulb, perhaps some small difference, slightly less brightness/current. First thing I would do is test bulbs with multimeter, look for oxidized connectors. You should verify that pulled 1157 is indeed bad according to multimeter. Don't feel bad about all the false paths you took, it's always simple once you figure it out.

I'm laughin, but yes, things are much simpler when they are figured out.
I also checked to see the difference betweent the bulbs.
the 1157 is supposed to be compatible, but for some reason this bike likes the 1034.
that is what was in the side that was working.
It's kinda like what I ran into with the spark plugs.
I used the ones that the Honda dealer sold me here, but they were resistor plugs, and this bike couldn't produce a good enough spark with them for quick starts.
Hey, they bike is old, so am I, so I kinda understand the lower wattage.

p.s. - both the bulbs and the sockets are like new, no oxidation at all.

Friday the 13th is a date where many ride their bikes to Port Dover for the day, but..............
this past 13th was a snow storm.
and yup, their were a few bikes there riding in the snow.
just not mine.................

the bike didn't pass the safety.
I am told that it needs steering head bearings............
so...........
I am having the dealership replace these.
then it should be in great shape for it's next owner.

it's just as cold riding a bike when it's 36 degrees out there as it was when I was 16.
the bike is back from the dealership now, and is no longer mine.

I was reminiscing on the way back from the hardware store.
I remembered when I had my S90, rode 10 miles to a friends, who had a sickle in their garbage.
this sickle had a long S shaped aluminum tube handle.
so...........
I took my muffler off, put this handle on in its place.
looked neat, S bend went up behind my head, and sounded fantastic.
so..........
with my new chopper I headed out............
I didn't get very far while being taught a lesson in metallurgy...........
the aluminum pipe softened, drooped, and before I knew it, it was dragging on the ground........
so, yup..........
I headed back to my friends, put my muffler back on, and headed out for the day.
some lessons are more painful to learn than others.............

like the time my buddy and I were riding home, and we wonderedc what it would feel like if a bike rode over your legs............
yup, you guessed it..................
I sat down, stretched out my legs and my buddy rode over them with the nobby tires of his 174 Yamaha Enduro.
and yes, it does hurt.

The pens in post 572 were not made from oak, sorry, I missed this part, ol guy stuff.
I've used hard maple, spalded maple, curly maple, walnut, wenge, holly, bambo, ebony, padauk, birdeye maple, roasted ash, cherry, purpleheart, zebrawood, and I've made a few out of acryic.
I am having a bit of fun making some from curly maple, then stining them with ebony stain, (red, green, maroon, yellow and other water colours)
The water colours make the curly maple look like acrylic without the difficulty of turning acrylic and the expense.
I've made a few pens, sorry I missed this.................

Also, I might add that I haven't used Oak because of the open grain in that wood, it makes it a lot more work to fill the pours to get a smooth surface finish.
that's just me though...........
