'63 CA95

Restoring '63 CA95 Benly, 1) how does the oil from the valves, return to the crankcase? 2) Where does the valve cover vent tube go to?. She smokes from the right bank, after sitting, then clears up. Valve guide problem?? Thank you.
 
Oil drains down through passages in the head and cylinder cases. Valve cover tube goes to the air cleaner, but the tube can be vented to the atmosphere. If oil comes from the valve cover tube, then you may have worn rings.

After 63 years you might have a worn valve guide. I would not mess with the engine over a bit of smoke during startup, especially if the engine is original. Just my opinion.

Thank you for the info. I am a bit fearful that the return passages maybe plugged. May open a valve adjusting cap and do some watching, while at idle. Hard to sell it smoking.
 
Thank you for the info. I had the valve cover vent tube going to the "intake valve guides" vent. DAH, I was pressurizing the engine. I suspect the pressure was being relieved thru the valve guide clearances. Re-routed vent tubes like they should be, smoke cleared out, running nice and clean now. Big savings $$ and labor, I was about to tear down and inspect/replace valve guides. Thank you Again.image_67233025.jpeg

I did the exact same thing back in 08 when I restored my 1st CA95. I thought connecting the two vents was some kind of early vapor recirculation system. When the tube connecting the two vents blew off with a bang, did I go back to reference to discover my assumption was wrong. Glad to hear you avoided unnecessary repairs.

Hey Spokes, I know this is an old thread but where exactly are the oil passages in the head and cylinder bases?

@Spokes is a regular though, he should be through pretty quick.
 
Oil goes up through the forward right stud (where you see the green O ring placed) and drains through the cam side rectangle opening although I suspect some oil returns through the knock pins.
