The feds put a stop to it in the late sixties, requiring both filaments to be powered in the center of the switch travel. Apparently, they think the average bike rider is too stupid to flip the switch all the way when going from high beam to low beam.
And yet they allowed the light switch on my CB175 K4 ( US Spec ) that goes OFF - DIP - MAIN. Ok, there is a distinct detent between OFF and DIP, but still easy enough with thick gloves and numb fingers to push the slider all the way from MAIN to OFF.
