50+ year old passenger pegs sometimes will show their age by not staying erect.
You can fix this by inserting a zip tie between the bottom rubber and square metal washer to put more tension on it when in the up position.
Get it in position loosely, then pry open the space between the footpeg rubber and metal washer using a small screwdriver and slide it into place, then tighten the zip tie.
Mine is working so far...there are replacement rubbers out there that should also fix the problem, but this works as a quick fix.

You could also find a used set of factory passenger pegs on eBay and use the square washers to double-up yours for more tension.

I had a very droopy one on my CM. What I have done and I’ll take a picture tomorrow if possible, is cut a piece of 1, possibly 2mm stainless I had and bend it to shape over the back of the foot rest, so the slopy bit of the foot rest presses against it.Yes you can see it, but works perfectly.

On mine I just welded a couple beads on the surface that wears on the peg (where it rides/stops against the U shaped bracket). Doubt I took any pictures

I find the "flip up" rider foot pegs a real pain as they often "Flip up" when I stop at traffic lights etc and I have to look down to put the foot pegs down to engage first gear so I can ride away. My solution was to use suitable stainless bolts with nyloc nuts and thin washers between the face of the foot peg and the mounting bracket and really tighten up so foot pegs are permanently down as on most British bikes.

My 1982 Honda CD200 is now 44 years old and like a lot of things on the bike the spring operated rider front foot pegs mechanism is quite worn and without my modification flip up at the slightest touch. I was continually having to push the left/gearchange foot peg down every time I stopped. The right side foot peg being permanently fixed down does not get in the way of the kick starter although I hardly ever use it as the 12 volt starter motor is very good. I think most British bikes, and I have had a few when I was younger, have permanently fixed riders foot pegs although the passenger foot pegs normally flip up out of the way. Each to his own.
