I'm trying to adjust the clutch on my 1973 CB500. The image numbered 2 is impossible to turn so I hit it with an impact screw driver. I turned but it got pushed in. I pushed it back out with a piece of wood and hammer from the inside.
Can I take this out and clean and lube it? What gives? Also, turn it CCW has now made it impossible to push the clutch in.

Assuming you loosened the lock bolt (#1), the outer shell of the lifter mechanism (#2) is binding in the front sprocket cover. You need to completely disassemble the mechanism and carefully tap the outer shell out of the cover so you can clean things up so the shell will smoothly rotate in the cover. Lightly grease up the outer shell, slip it back in the cover and reassemble with fresh grease on the threads of the lifter arm.

Be very careful with the outer shell as they're made of some kind of "pot metal" and can crack easily, and they're getting harder to find.

On my CB450 resurrection I had to disassemble and use 600 grit emery cloth on both the adjuster and housing to clean it up to get it rotating smoothly after lubricating. It appeared that it had never been lubricated properly by the PO.

That's my plan today, thank you.

Good thought. I'm on it today.

This worked perfectly. Easy job, thanks for the good vibes to get it done.
