Hi All,

I'm looking for tank badges like Ol' Kaplan's got on this bike. see picture I know he says its a '74 CL450 but I believe its more like a 70 or 71. It is a black letter HONDA badge which I'm having trouble finding. If anyone has any information they would like to give me on part numbers or years or anything, please let me know. These earlier (68 thru 70) had lots of mid-year changes to them as well as the side covers, but that's another question for later. I think the normal white letter ones would work but that would require stripping and repainting with model enamel paint. (which I've done before, but don't really want to do again, but would if I have too.) Kaplan bike 450.jpg

Unless it sat around and was sold and titled later. The K series number is more important than the year on these bikes. Prior to the implementation of the true 17 digit VIN, if these bikes didn't sell by September 1st each year they were held over and titled the following year when they were eventually sold. So in theory, a new bike back then could be titled the following year, or even a couple of years later if it sat unsold on the showroom floor long enough. Since (I assume) the frame number isn't shown or mentioned in the video, going by the taillight, tank, seat, size and color of the headlight case, and the style of the gauges, it looks to be this one.

Though the tank shown is the CB version at both CMSNL and Partzilla, there are 4 listings shown for Left and Right (two each) but the superceded part number for all of them is this, which would seem to have black letters (if the picture can be believed). Doesn't appear to be any out there at the usual locations, including David Silver Spares, unless you want to spend the big money for them from CMSNL.

In the same 1970 model year, the badges on the CB450 were white, so that may be where you are seeing those from.
