Hey All,

Curious to know what purpose this inner collar serves in the rear hub? Is it a "vital" component (I realize that the answer is probably yes) ... Thanks Bill

Bill - that doesn't work. Whatever picture you tried to copy the link to just made a giant page of address gibberish. The better way to do that is to click on the post number in the thread and then copy the browser address of that post, so the link here would take us directly to the post with the picture in question in it. Like this:

I know there's no picture involved, but click it to see what I mean

Hey Dad ...

I know ... I couldn't figure out how to fix the picture ... thanks for deleting it for me ... for some reason, the edit function stalled out when I tried to remove the gibberish text ... my question was referring to the rear axle "collar" ... just trying to figure out what it's purpose is and if it is essential to the rear wheel operation?

Also ... do you happen to know the correct size for a rear axle bearing tool for the CB500T? I see many of them out there ... wondering if this one would work? https://www.dimecitycycles.com/oe-rear-wheel-bearing-retainer-tool.html

Hope all is well! .. Thanks Bill

Yes, it IS essential, and carries the axle torque loading through the wheels bearing centers.......Without it, tightening the axle nut would squeeze the bearing centers towards the middle of the hub, binding the rolling balls against the side of their races......The balls are supposed to roll around the races, the spacers and center collar holding the race centers properly aligned and non-rotating.......You want the wheels to rotate on their bearings, not on the axle......

Got it ... Thanks Steve ... the Japanese don't usually engineer unnecessarily ... any suggestions on the rear axle bearing tool? Hope you're doing well & staying healthy!
