I decided to take the CL450 down to Margate for the Malle Beach Race today. It's about 20 miles from me and I took a mixture of back roads along the coast as well as a stretch of dual carriage that was unavoidable.
Here are some photos at Margate - I didn't get right down close to the racing as you had to pay £25 for a 'weekend pass', so I just observed from the promenade like most others.
The bike in front of the Dreamland amusement park with the oldest roller coaster in UK (1920) and wheel in the background.
I used to have one of those many years ago.
'Steve McQueen' Rickman Metisse?
T.S. Eliot wrote some of the 'Wasteland' here.
VT500 sand racer.
After a coffee watching the races and looking at the bikes I rode back to meet my wife and her friends in Herne Bay.
Met Charlie who told me about his recent trip around Wales on his Yamaha 100. They slept in hammocks and did a full circuit of Wales in 7 days. He is 6'4"" and weighs 20 stone so the bike had to work hard!
Sea front with War Memorial clock. Marcel Duchamp spent a formative few moths in Herne Bay apparently (he wrote a postcard to his family - "I am not dead - I am in Herne Bay").
Nice Triumph.
Lunch with the girls then back home along the coast road.
The bike went well apart from some slight miss-firing or hesitation when I got to Margate, but this seemed to clear when it had cooled down. I think I will check for dirt in the carbs and do valve clearances and see if this helps. I'll also check points gaps.
I also need to check the carbs for balance and throttle opening synchronisation as it seems slightly sensitive at low throttle openings.
