I decided to take the CL450 down to Margate for the Malle Beach Race today. It's about 20 miles from me and I took a mixture of back roads along the coast as well as a stretch of dual carriage that was unavoidable.

Here are some photos at Margate - I didn't get right down close to the racing as you had to pay £25 for a 'weekend pass', so I just observed from the promenade like most others.

The bike in front of the Dreamland amusement park with the oldest roller coaster in UK (1920) and wheel in the background.

T.S. Eliot wrote some of the 'Wasteland' here.

After a coffee watching the races and looking at the bikes I rode back to meet my wife and her friends in Herne Bay.

Met Charlie who told me about his recent trip around Wales on his Yamaha 100. They slept in hammocks and did a full circuit of Wales in 7 days. He is 6'4"" and weighs 20 stone so the bike had to work hard!

Sea front with War Memorial clock. Marcel Duchamp spent a formative few moths in Herne Bay apparently (he wrote a postcard to his family - "I am not dead - I am in Herne Bay").

Nice Triumph.

Lunch with the girls then back home along the coast road.

The bike went well apart from some slight miss-firing or hesitation when I got to Margate, but this seemed to clear when it had cooled down. I think I will check for dirt in the carbs and do valve clearances and see if this helps. I'll also check points gaps.
I also need to check the carbs for balance and throttle opening synchronisation as it seems slightly sensitive at low throttle openings.

Nice ride and pictures, lots of vintage bikes there. Interesting race on the beach, conjures up images of old Daytona racing. Nice pictures, the bike looks good and I'm sure got as much interest as any there. Thanks for sharing.

Man there’s sure some cool stuff in Europe! Looks like a great way to spend the day, and you get to ride along the coast. I had a US model VT500 Ascot, I’ve never seen another version and that one is very different.
Your bike looks great, really like the silver/grey. Cheers!

Thanks everyone. Yes, it was a good day out. Lots of nice, interesting bikes and an old school vibe. And it wasn't raining.
