How does the worm gear come out of the wheel hub (before I screw something up...)

Also, any tips for reassembly - what type of grease, how much, etc?

Thanks,
Thomas

Well after degreasing I am seeing a roll pin ... but it goes into a blind hole.
I’m thinking the worm gear may be staying in place and getting degreased in situ.

I was thinking about this yesterday when you posted the question and could not remember how it was retained, but now that you mention it I do remember a roll pin. I've never had one apart for any reason, and the fiche shows a bit of a cutaway view so you can see the drive gear but no retention method visible.

It is definitely a roll pin, not going to try and get it out:

Pretty happy with how this cleaned up. Now for re-greasing and reassembly.

Yep, that was a memory refresher, I didn't even pay attention to it when I had my 450 front wheel apart because it worked. Not sure mine would be the same but I do recall seeing the no-way-to-get-it-out situation (well, at least not easily) in all the tire changes I did back in the day.
