    Field Armor - Protective Gear

Anyone use this stuff? Looking for something I can just put on, and not think to much about. I don't do anything too crazy, but - well, looking to build good habits. Kind of pricey, curious if anyone has any opinions on the compression shirt vs. a riding jacket. I think I'll probalby try to get something like this to wear under jeans for lower protection, but - up in the air for shirt/jacket.

In my opinion, the more gear, the better! So the first answer is yes.

I've always used a jacket (with built-in armor) on the street, tighter fitting layers (and armor) on the dirt. I like the roominess street riding, and the opportunity to really bundle under my looser jacket.

You could go either way but remember, if something fits tighter, you'll probably have to wash it more.

I'm the armored leathers type, I'll wear jeans for short rides but if I'm out on an all day ride it's armored leather pants. I like being warm, I can always hydrate more. My vented leather jacket is good from 90 degrees down to 32 with layering. The mesh jacket I had years ago was only good down to 70F, any cooler and I froze.

That looks like something to be worn under riding leathers, reinforced waxed cotton, or aramid reinforced denim...

Sure the inserts are great for impact, but I can’t see something that thin surviving a slide all that well.

Hi can't speak to it's utility, but when I looked at it suddenly Batman popped into my mind! LOL

not that it really matters, but most of my riding is back roads, and 20-35 mph. for me getting up around 40 and going down a flat straight road is boring, so - I've focused on the back way from here to there on all the side and back roads, through neighborhoods. Last year I just wore regular jeans and a long sleeve t shirt with a flanel shirt and sometimes a windbreaker, helmet and mechanics gloves with safety glasses for the shooting range. thinking about spring, and feel like I should add in some more safety gear since I managed to wind about 2,600 miles onto my bike last year, which is was more than I thought I would do, but it adds up quick.

More gear is always a good choice. The purpose-built stuff is always going to be safer than the rest.

Preach it. Love neighborhood and country roads.

I wish I could say I was an “AGATT” guy, but really I’m an “All Gear Most of The Time, Most Gear All of The Time” kind of guy.

The riding pants occasionally get left at home on short commutes, and the riding boots are usually swapped out for my redwings. Aside from that I’ve got two armored jackets, one for colder weather one for warmer, and a couple of gloves (summer, spring/fall, winter). It keeps me riding comfortably in pretty much all seasons. Coupled with windbreaker jacket and pants (cheap but effective) I’ll ride just about any season.

Only two exceptions are highway riding in the winter (brrrr, no matter how great your heated gloves are) and any condition where there’s ice on the road. I took too many spills when I was commuting via bicycle, and don’t want to imagine the same thing multiplied on a motorcycle.
