When reviewing parts lists, they often relate to the serial number. Are they referring to the engine or frame serial number?

For warranty purposes, Honda told us to always use the frame number. They would reject a warranty claim, using the engine number. It's logical to assume the running changes in production were recorded on the basis of the frame nos..

So if the motor got changed from the original motor and it wasn't in the serial number range for that frame and it was a motor part, it would be a roll of the dice that it was the correct part for that motor? I know for the most part that these Honda twin motors didn't change much in these years, so it probably isn't that big of a deal.

So in that case in reverse, it would be a roll of the dice if the frame serial number wasn't in the engine serial number range. Maybe the engine parts use the engine serial number and all else the frame?

Correct......Engine serial (and "K") for the engine parts.....All other go by frame serial and K.....
