• I created revised screenshots of all the usual functions for our new format, like posting pictures and videos, sending private messages, etc. While videos are becoming more popular instead of posting pictures, when asking for help and advice for a specific problem, good clear close-up pictures are still the best way to convey a hardware situation.

Currently the "attach files" button is not functioning correctly, to add pictures use the "insert image" button on the toolbar above the text box.

To conserve expensive server space we are still requiring videos to be hosted elsewhere and linked here. In the new format it is as easy as pasting a video link in place now, and a much wider range of video formats are compatible.

Hey Ya'll,

Hoping one of you might have a pinout handy for the left side switches on a Cb400t? I'm going to be replacing the clutch lever assembly and the signal/horn/hi-low beam switch is integrated, meaning I have to either cut the lever mount off my current one (absolutely not going to do that) or wire in another one. Trying to get ahead of the curve and figure out what I'm going to need to connect up. The copy of the FSM I have is not hi res enough for me to discern anything useful unfortunately. If I can't avoid having to trace each lead with my multimeter, so be it, but figured I would ask.

Cheers

The closest I can find is the CB400T1 diagram but it's in black and white, though it has a color legend and isn't too hard to read. PM sent in case it's better than what you have in the FSM

Just took a look, wow that is way better quality! I assume this is from the Library, which is super helpful because I dont think I have permission to send PM's yet.

Much appreciated, will update my build thread when I get this sorted

It is from our library, and you are right about permissions for PMs. It's an effort to better control the scammers that occasionally get my our pretty extensive vetting of new members.

If anything comes up that you need prior to your PM privileges, just reply to my initial PM about introduction requirements and the Welcome Package and I'll take care of it.

Oh I completely understand, the work y'all do here is fantastic in terms of resources. Access control is a tricky thing to manage, used to work as a network admin and it was always a difficult balance. I think the way the library is set up is as good as you can get.

To anyone's who searches this for future reference, attached is the connection map I made.

No attachment visible. The "attach files" command below does not function, please scan and upload as a picture using the "insert image" icon on the toolbar above the text box.

I know little of the SOHC 400s but the clutch and horn green wires wouldn't seem to really be paired to each other, but they do share the common green ground function all Hondas of the era used.

Solid Green is ground on these models.
Orange or Blue with a White tracer is the run/park lights in the front turn signals.
Solid Orange or Blue are the turn signals
Both the clutch and horn circuits are grounding circuits

Ahh that makes a lot more sense, I'll update my diagram. Been working on this without the bike to actually test the circuits.

Ok redid the diagram, thanks for the help AD and LDR. Finally off work for this week, so I'll double check everything with the bike today so I can ensure this doesn't provide any wayward advice for anyone who goes looking.

Ok can confirm it is accurate for a 1981 CB400t, my new switch cluster works perfectly!
