Completely worn kick start spring Tab (lower crank case)

The tab that keeps the kick start spring wound has completely worn at this point. any vibration along the kick start shaft when trying to put the clutch cover back on causes it to slip off. What can I do? Would I be able to sculpt JB weld onto it? The other side of the tab in the clutch cover is fine.
 
I don't see why you couldn't simply file a small groove into the top of the aluminum for the spring to rest in until you put the cover back on

Also it wouldn't take much to fix that. Just have a welder add some aluminum back on. It shouldn't be a difficult job at all.
