I recently bought a go kart that had an engine I believe to be from a cm250c. I believe it is a cm250c because I looked up the engine number and found it matched. One problem is that on the engine it states that it is 233cc but a cm250c is 234cc. The engine is in okay shape and it fired on starter fluid. I want to rewire it to make it easier to work on, I can’t trust the old harness because there are wires being spliced to other wires and there were grounds going to other grounds so I can’t trust that the first person new what they were doing. I was wondering if anybody could help me figure out how to rewire this engine

The 1cc difference could just be a rounding up/down question, doesn't make any difference though. Both years of that model used the MC06 engine.
For the wiring of the engine you want the charging system to keep the battery charged, the starter system to start it and the ignition system to run it.
Start with a photocopy of the wiring and some white out. Erase all the lighting circuits first and then post a copy here so I can see what else can be eliminated and what needs to be changed.
You may be able to keep the harness you have or it may be easier to build a fresh one. Vintage Connections has and excellent assortment of wiring, connectors and plugs that will keep everything neat and tidy.

While I know your engine year is not obvious to you, if you post the engine serial number (stamped on it) Jim can tell you if it falls in the years that wiring diagram applies to. Looks like the right one to me but I have little experience with that model.

Okay, so according to my Honda ID Guide it's an '82 engine so that wiring diagram (if the website author is correct) should be the one. I believe we also have the FSM (factory service manual) in our library as well, I'll check.

Is this correct? 6-speed and 3 valves per cylinder?

At 140kg wet this isn't one of the sleeved down 400 Dreams like they had in the UK, 140kg is 308lbs so more like a 250 Nighthawk than a 415lb CM400.

But 250 Nighthawk and Rebel were 2 valves per cylinder, is the spec page wrong or is this the unicorn of 250 twins?

Nope, same 2v motor, sure would be nice to have a heavy breathing head like the 400/450s have.

The CM250C engine is the grown up version of the CM185T with the CM200T in between.

I just fixed the old harness and put it on but have to get a new solenoid to start it with a switch. I shorted out the solenoid so it would crank and start. I got it running good I’m just wondering what rpm it idles at so I know if it needs to go lower
