During the course of rebuilding the starter clutch, thought I would renew the chain. Ordered chain (28101-253-000P) from DSS…DID 219H 58 L

Problem: Chain provided is per the correct P/N and is 58 links BUT my present chain installed is 60 L. My 2 sprockets are STARTER 13 teeth and Crank gear is 36 teeth.

Have been told by DSS that they have seen this problem once before although part is infrequently ordered. Do I have some odd crank sprocket that is not stock… @ 36 teeth?

My present chain appears to be in good condition , but I think too much “slop”.....see attached.

Any suggestions?....

That chain shouldn't be tight, it's supposed to be loose and judging from your pictures I think it's fine. I don't know this engine so I'm not any sort of authority.

I agree with Jim, your starter chain looks like most you see, typically a little slack like a drive chain would have. Remember that it sits completely still at all times except when the starter is turning the engine, so it isn't like it's going to rub on anything while riding.
